LINCOLN, R.I. (AP) — Twin River has completed its purchase of a Hard Rock casino in Biloxi, Mississippi, a move said to strengthen the Rhode Island-based casino as it prepares for the threat of gambling across the border.

Twin River’s closing on the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino was announced Thursday. It paid $250 million.

Chairman John Taylor Jr. called it a critically important day. He said Lincoln-based Twin River is now financially stronger and more diversified.

The casino is facing a financial threat from the introduction of gambling in Massachusetts.

Twin River will keep the Hard Rock name and brand. The Biloxi casino has over 1,300 slot machines and 50 table games. The beachfront hotel will have 479 rooms when work is done on a new tower. It also has a spa.
