2 men killed in Nettleton; police shoot, kill alleged shooter

shootingNETTLETON, Mississippi (AP) — Three people are dead after a shooting in Nettleton.

Authorities say the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute that apparently started at United Furniture’s manufacturing plant.

Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson says four people were in a sports utility vehicle leaving the plant Wednesday. About 300 yards away, Johnson says one of the people in the SUV shot two of the vehicle’s other passengers.

Both victims got out, but one immediately fell to the ground; the other ran but was chased by the shooter, who fired multiple times at him when he fell.

As an officer talked with the driver, Johnson says the shooter approached him from behind and fired at the police car. The officer returned gunfire and fatally shot him.

The victims’ names have not been released.
