JACKSON, Mississippi (AP) — At least one eastbound lane of the Mississippi River bridge on Interstate 20 at Vicksburg, Miss., has reopened.
Louisiana State Trooper Albert Paxton says the other lanes should be cleared for traffic soon as cleanup continues following a chain reaction crash early Wednesday.
An 18-wheeler skidded on the ice and crashed into a railing at about 4 a.m. At least four other tractor-trailer rigs followed.
Paxton says a tanker leaked a flammable liquid into the river, but it was not immediately clear how much. The leak was stopped about 12:30 p.m.
The National Weather Service says a winter weather advisory is in effect for the Columbus area until 10 p.m. Wednesday.
Across the state, bridges, trees and utility lines were covered with ice.
