HATTIESBURG, Mississippi (AP) — Challenger Dave Ware is raising more money than current Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree in their electoral rematch.
Ware has raised nearly $130,000, according to reports filed Tuesday. Dupree has raised $60,000.
That continues the funding edge independent candidate Ware had over the Democratic incumbent in the earlier election, reports the Hattiesburg American.
DuPree recorded 37 more votes than Ware in a June 4 election. A judge called a special election after a mistrial in an election fraud case. Voters go to the polls Tuesday.
Overall, Ware has collected close to $300,000 during the mayoral race. Ware’s largest recent contribution is $5,000 from ophthalmologist Dr. Lynn McMahan.
DuPree has raised $120,000 over the entire race. He lists $2,000 from state Rep. Percy Watson, D-Hattiesburg, as his largest recent contribution.
