Tupelo mom, 2-year-old daughter killed when runaway 18-wheeler crushes their parked car

TUPELO, Mississippi –(AP) — Authorities have released the names of a woman and her young daughter who were killed Friday in Tupelo while sitting in a vehicle that was struck by a runaway tractor-trailer.

Lee County coroner Carolyn Green says 20-year-old Olidia Acosta and 2-year-old Vianett Castillo were in a parking lot outside an auto insurance office when the incident happened.

Authorities say after the driver of the 18-wheeler got out to make a delivery, the rig rolled away and crushed the vehicle in which Acosta and her daughter were sitting.

The incident remains under investigation. The truck driver’s name was not immediately released.

Acosta and her daughter lived in the Tupelo suburb of Shannon.
