CANTON – Authorities said a man in the country illegally is being held without bond for allegedly hacking his neighbor to death over a land dispute.
Nolasco Idisro Eugenio, 40, remains in custody in a Madison County jail after he reportedly used a machete in an attack on Alphonozo Rosas in a trailer park near Canton. Authorities said the incident occurred on Aug. 21, and that Rosas was nearly decapitated in the assault.
Madison County deputies said the two men, who lived next door to each other, had been arguing about land and the placement of a fence.
Officials added that the victim, Rosas, was an American citizen while Eugenio was undocumented.
The case remains under investigation.
