CORINTH – Tourism leaders are asking for an increase in funding from officials of the city of Corinth and Alcorn County.
The Daily Corinthian reported the Corinth Board of Mayor and Aldermen and Alcorn County Board of Supervisors will complete their budgets in September for the coming fiscal year.
The Corinth Area Convention and Visitors Bureau wants an increase in its monthly allotment of tourism tax funding from $42,000 to $45,000. Crossroads Arena is poised to receive $200,000 from the tourism budget, down from $250,000 in the current fiscal year.
The tourism budget anticipates total income of $588,570.
Convention and Visitors Bureau board member Sandy Mitchell told Corinth officials that the CVB has been trying to stretch every dollar in its budget. She said the organization expects to have $13,500 remaining at the left at the end of the current fiscal year.

Tammany Genovese, manager of the Crossroads Arena, also urged Corinth officials to support the area's tourism efforts.
“We are trying to build a financial model that will help us be self-sustaining,'' she said.
