MDOT to Begin Widening of I-55 in Hinds County

From The Mississippi Link Newswire

JACKSON – On Monday, June 3, Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the James Construction Group closed the Elton  Road overpass on I-55 in Hinds County as part of the widening project on I-55 from Byram to McDowell Road.

The overpass will remain closed until Sept. 15 in order to raise the height of the bridge over I-55.

The bridge will be raised to meet current MDOT standards for bridge heights, and construction on both ends of the bridge will be required to tie into the new bridge height. All interchange ramps as well as the frontage roads in the area will remain open, but motorists will not be able to cross over I-55 using the Elton Road overpass bridge.

“We would like to urge motorists to take extra precaution, slow down and watch out for workers on the roadway while driving through this work zone,” said Central District Commissioner Dick Hall.  “We look forward to utilizing this roadway to further improve the safety of motorists throughout the area and look forward to completing this work safely while causing minimal traffic delays.”
