KOSCIUSKO – (AP) The Attala County School will install video intercom systems and card reader access for teachers at Ethel High School and the Kosciusko-Attala Career Technical Center.
Schools Superintendent Bryan Weaver told the Star Herald that the security systems will cost $6,634.
At Ethel, Weaver said each staff member would have a card that they could open the front door on their own. He said the back entrance between the office and the library would be staff entrance and in cases of rainy weather, the student entrance.
Weaver said teachers would have to use an ID/card reader system to get in. Students would enter in the additional back entrance that leads directly to classrooms.
“Basically, it (Ethel) is one of the worst schools as for as security goes,” Weaver said. “The entrance at the very front as soon as you come up the steps, you can go right through the door and if you go to the right,
they can go into the hall where the students are without any disruption to the office at all.”
At the career technical center, Weaver said an intercom system will be put at one end and an ID/card reader at the other for staff. He said cards would not be for student use.
Weaver said the school system was looking at security needs at the buildings.
