Victim cut in the neck
An 18-year-old has been charged with aggravated assault after she allegedly cut another woman in the neck and throat in a Kroger parking lot earlier this month.
Virginia Flores was charged by Tupelo police for an incident that occurred on Feb. 9. Reportedly, an altercation between Flores and the female victim began as they were driving down the roadway in separate cars and escalated when they pulled into the parking lot of a Kroger
grocery store on West Main Street.
The victim was allegedly attacked by Flores and police were called to the scene around 12 p.m. The victim was treated at a local hospital and released.
Police said Flores and the victim knew each other, and it was not a random act of road rage as they initially thought.
Flores is being held on a $50,000 bond.
Missing child found in adult’s apartment
Jackson police are trying to determine how a 7-year-old boy, who was missing from school, turned up in another person’s apartment in his complex.
Jackson police said Spann Elementary contacted the child’s parents around noon Monday after he didn’t show up for school. That prompted a district-wide missing child notification, WLBT reported.
The boy was found safe after a door-to-door search of his apartment complex – the Crossings at Ridgewood on Ridgewood Road. Jackson Police Officer Colendula Green said the boy was found in an apartment with an 18-year-old. The child was taken to the hospital to be examined as a precaution, but police don’t believe he was harmed.
The unidentified second grader was missing for more than four hours.
Police haven’t released the name or gender of the 18-year-old, but said the person was taken in for questioning. No charges have been filed.
Man to be sentenced for stealing guns
from dealer
A man who pleaded guilty to stealing money and guns from a dealer in northeast Mississippi is scheduled for sentencing May 2.
Court records say Ryan Dandre Hearn will be sentenced in U.S. District Court in Oxford. He pleaded guilty to one charge in a Jan. 18 indictment that said he and another man stole three pistols from The Gold Exchange in Nettleton on July 9, 2009.
The indictment says that Hearn lost his job and told a friend he needed to “hit a lick.”
The friend allegedly caused a distraction before Hearn hit an employee, jumped the counter and grabbed guns and money.
Court records said an employee wrestled Hearn to the ground and fired shots as the suspects fled.
Traffic stop nets over $600,000 in cash
Officials said a recent routine traffic stop in Ecru netted some $600,000 in cash. The Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics (MBN) said the stop took place on Highway 15 earlier this month and the vehicle in question was a car hauler carrying several new vehicles.
Authorities said the cash was in a duffle bag hidden inside the hauler. The cash was wrapped in plastic.
The driver was not charged and subsequently released.
The MBN, however, held onto the cash and is investigated where the money came from and where it was headed.
