BAY ST. LOUIS – (AP) The Hancock County school system has a list of projects on which to spend $16 million from a bond issue approved by voters.

Schools Superintendent Alan Dedeaux tells the Sea Coast Echo that the district has compiled a list of “priority” projects and will begin taking bids on certain ones later this month.

“Our goal is to have some type of improvements at every school,” Dedeaux said. “Safety was one of our biggest concerns. This bond will allow us to set up our facilities nicely for years to come.”

Dedeaux said the first project will be building eight new classrooms at the career-tech center. Once the project is complete, the new school district will final be able to move all of its students and administrators out of the few remaining trailers on campus.

Next, the district wants to improve safety at East Hancock Elementary.

“We want to add some canopies at East Hancock and we also want to address some of the traffic flow problems we have been having,” he said.

Plans are to remodel the gym at Hancock North Central Elementary, add classrooms at several schools and improve some athletic facilities.

The largest project will most likely be one of the last – a fine arts center.

“We want to get the public involved in the fine arts center and get its input,” Dedeaux said. “This will be a major project for us.”
