MDOT to host safe routes program for kids

From The Mississippi Link Newswire

MADISON – The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT), will host a Safe Routes to School Groundbreaking Ceremony to kick off the Madison SRTS project.

The event will take place at Madison Avenue Lower Elementary School, Wednesday, Aug. 15, at 10 a.m.

The SRTS Program enables and encourages children, including those with disabilities, to walk and bicycle to school safely. The program sets out to make walking and biking a more appealing transportation option for students, thereby encouraging healthy and active lifestyles from an early age.

The program is sponsored by Central District Transportation Commissioner Dick Hall, Mayor Mary Hawkins Butler and Madison Avenue Lower Elementary School Principal Dr. Brenda Jones.
