NORTH MISSISSIPPI – A woman and her 7-year-old daughter, who were reported missing, have been found safe.

Investigators say 32-year-old Christina Howie and her daughter Caitlin of Oxford, Mississippi, were discovered around 4 a.m. in Jones County, Mississippi near Hattiesburg.

A police officer pulled them over for a traffic stop and learned there was a welfare call out for them.

The two had not been seen since Saturday evening.

It was unclear where they were going.

The Red Cross put them up in a motel room until a family member could pick them up.

Investigators with the Lafayette County Sheriff's office say Christina Howie and her daughter Caitlin left for the Gulf Coast August 1 and were due back home in Oxford Saturday night.

Prior to being found, the two were last seen about 300 miles from Oxford. They were staying at the Best Western in Wiggins, Mississippi, Friday.

They left the hotel Saturday morning and came back later that night to pay the bill and had not been seen since.

Lafayette County investigators say Howie's husband reported their disappearance.
