JACKSON – The father of an 18-month-old girl has turned himself in to police on charges of capital murder, police said. Twenty-eight-year-old Johnny Williams was taken into custody on July 6 after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Jackson Police Officer Colendula Green said Williams’ daughter, Jada Williams, was taken to the Central Mississippi Medical Center (CMMC) on July 3 where she was pronounced dead. The police were called once it was discovered that Jada had severe bruising to her body.

“An autopsy was performed on July 4, and at that time, the child’s death was ruled a homicide,” Green said. “The child’s mother, Jasmine Porter, was initially arrested and charged with felony child abuse. Those charges were later upgraded to capital murder.”

Green said no further details regarding the extent of Jada’s injuries are being released at this time pending the investigation.

As of July 10, Porter and Williams were being held without bond and court appearances for both are pending, Hinds County officials said.
