CORINTH – An Alcorn County woman found dead in her car in a convenience store parking lot Saturday night leaves authorities with more questions than answers, WTVA reported.

Alcorn County Coroner Jay Jones said Meleah Lewis, 32, had gone into a store on the corner of Cass and Meigg streets just before 8 p.m. to buy a pack of cigarettes.

Jones said the manager came out and found her sitting in her car, unresponsive. He called 911.

When emergency responders arrived after 9:30 p.m., Lewis was already dead.

Jones said there were no visible signs on the body that could have indicated a cause of death. He also said her keys, wallet and money was all still there. In fact, Jones said he didn’t see any signs of foul play.

When asked if it could have been an aggravated medical condition, Jones said Lewis had no history of major medical problems. He said family members indicated Lewis was originally from Arkansas, but lived in Corinth.

The body has been sent to Jackson for an autopsy. Due to the Memorial Day holiday, Jones expects results by Tuesday.
