JACKSON, Miss. – The Foundation for the Mid South was selected as one of 120 nonprofits nationwide to participate in the Starbucks Community Card: Vote. Give. Grow Challenge.
One of four chosen to represent Mississippi, the Foundation can receive up to $35,000 from the Starbucks Foundation to improve lives in the Mid South, expanding its work in education, health and wellness, wealth building and community development.
The Starbucks challenge highlights nonprofits doing exceptional work in community development and service. The Foundation was selected because of its Community of Opportunities work in Leflore County, Miss., an initiative that works with residents to strengthen collaboration and develop solutions to help their communities grow and prosper.
“Since 2003, community partners have successfully leveraged the Foundation’s support and brought over $20 million in new resources into Leflore County to improve education, economic development and housing, among others,” said Aisha Nyandoro, Foundation for the Mid South Program Officer. “Throughout the Mid South, we focus on expanding knowledge, using resources more wisely and community engagement. This campaign is a way people can bring more funding into the region and it only takes a few seconds at a computer.”

The Starbucks challenge presents an opportunity for Mississippians to support the Jackson, Mississippi-based foundation and actively participate in expanding its work. It’s not too late to vote, the internet-based voting campaign ends Monday, April 30 at midnight, and invites Starbucks rewards card members to determine how $4 million in funding will be distributed throughout the nation.
