JACKSON – Entergy Nuclear has engineered a sweet partnership with Van Winkle Elementary School through longtime support, including a $3,000 contribution announced recently.

The company, headquartered in Jackson, will help fund the Increasing Academic Achievement through Positive Behavior project at Van Winkle, also located in Jackson. The elementary school is Echelon’s adopt a school program.

“The cost of helping children receive the education they deserve continues to rise each year. Entergy’s donation will help us continue to run our programs, as well as help us to purchase needed supplies that have not been donated,” said Dr. Eric Cook, assistant principal at Van Winkle Elementary School. “We appreciate the support and enthusiasm of Entergy Nuclear as our partner in education. Together, we can truly build the community, starting with the education of our youth.”

Since 1987, Entergy employees based at Echelon have actively supported Van Winkle Elementary School through monetary and in-kind contributions. The partnership supports Entergy Corporation’s commitment to improving public education and is a component of Entergy Mississippi’s Destination Education initiative aimed at improving graduation rates.

“It is important to participate in enhancing public education through a program such as Partnerships in Education,” said John Herron, president and chief executive officer of Entergy Nuclear. “Our donation to Van Winkle Elementary School represents Entergy Nuclear’s commitment to education and our communities.”
