JACKSON – Bond has been denied for a 15-year-old boy accused of shooting a man in the head last week. Mark Cassity Jr. turned himself into police on Feb. 29 after a warrant was issued for his arrest in the death of 34-year-old Joseph Wright III.

Wright was shot on Feb. 28 as he drove his car down Pocahontas Street. Jackson Police Officer Colendula Green said witnesses later said they heard gunshots and saw the victim’s car swerving backwards down the street until it came to a final rest in a yard.

Wright was found in his car. He had been shot in the head. Wright was transported to a local hospital where he died.

Green said an investigation revealed Wright’s car, a champagne colored Chevrolet, had been rented in Tennessee.

Green said another man was seen running from the scene, but it is not clear if he was involved in the shooting.

No motive has been given for the killing.
