Jackson water main fixed, but boil order still on

JACKSON – (AP) The City of Jackson says contractors have fixed a 42-inch water main off Interstate 220 in south Jackson, but people there should keep boiling any water that will end up in someone’s mouth, whether as cooked food or a toothbrush rinse.

Repairs began Friday.

A statement says customers served by city wells are not affected.

It says contractors expected to begin sending water into the main about noon Sunday, but people affected by the break should keep sterilizing water by keeping it at a rolling boil for a full minute.

WAPT reported that 3,000 customers still had low water pressure Saturday. They included the Central Mississippi Medical Center, which has over 100 patents.

City officials said the old concrete pipe was being replaced with iron.
