Bobby Brown on Miss. stage: ‘I love you Whitney’

SOUTHAVEN – (AP) It was an emotional night for soul singer Bobby Brown as he performed hours after learning that his ex-wife Whitney Houston had died in Beverly Hills.

Brown took to a stage in Southhaven Saturday night and only made brief remarks about Houston’s death at 48.

Before thousands of fans, Brown declared: “… I would like to say, ‘I love you, Whitney.’ The hardest thing for me to do is to come on this stage.”

Later in the concert Bobby Brown appeared emotionally overcome as his group – New Edition – performed a ballad. When the song began, he joined in but his voice cracked and he walked off stage. The concert ended soon afterward.

Houston and Brown had a tumultuous 15-year marriage that ended in 2007.

Houston and Brown’s only child, 18-year-old Bobbie Kristina, was also hospitalized Saturday night after reports said she became hysterical after learning of her mother’s death.

Brown has since left the New Edition tour to be with his daughter.

TMZ reported that Bobbie Kristina got into an angry shouting match with police officers outside the hotel room where her mother was found dead after she was denied access to her mother’s hotel room.

According to law enforcement sources, Bobbi Kristina showed up on the 4th floor of the Beverly Hilton several hours after Whitney’s death. When officers informed her no one was allowed to see the body – Bobbie Kristina reportedly screamed, cursed and demanded to see her mother, TMZ reported.

Ultimately, she was not allowed into the room and left. Whitney’s cousin, Dionne Warwick, also showed up later and was also turned away by officers.

TMZ said other family members and friends – who were in the room when authorities arrived – identified Whitney, who was allegedly found dead in the bathtub of her hotel room.

Bobbi Kristina was later taken out of the Beverly Hilton on a stretcher and transported to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles after several printed reports said she was “hysterical, exhausted and inconsolable.”

She was released later that evening.

An autopsy was performed on Houston on Sunday, but the results have reportedly been put on a “security hold.”

The coroner’s office also said it could takes weeks before Houston’s toxicology results returned.

Whitney Houston was 48.
