Several patrons were fighting

A Columbus bartender has been arrested after she allegedly shot a customer in the shoulder. Crystal Bowen-Davis, 33, of Caledonia, was jailed Friday night for allegedly shooting 32-year old James Ross Beams at The Quarter Bar on U.S. Highway 69 South just after 11 p.m.

Authorities said Davis was bartending when a fight involving several men and women broke out in the billiards area. Witnesses said Davis went to the back room and allegedly retrieved a .45 caliber handgun.

Columbus police said Davis waved the gun around before allegedly firing one time hitting Beam. Beam’s condition is unknown.

Unconfirmed reports said Davis’ boss was also involved in the fight.

Davis remains in custody at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center. Her bond has not been set.

Louisiana man dies while hunting

Authorities said a 64-year old Louisiana man found dead Saturday, at the base of a deer stand in Copiah County, reportedly died of a heart condition. On Jan. 22, friends found Ronald G. Landry unresponsive at the bottom of a deer stand near U.S. Highway 547.

Witnesses told police Landry and some friends were at the deer camp when they parted ways. Landry reportedly left about 3:30 p.m., and when he failed to return by dark, his friends became concerned.

Landry died before being airlifted to UMC in Jackson. Authorities said Landry suffered from a previous heart condition and foul play is not suspected.

Cop guilty of taking money from people during traffic stops

A Corinth police officer is awaiting his sentencing after pleading guilty to taking money from people during traffic stops. Jamie L. Brewer, 32, plead guilty to four counts of taking the money in U.S. District Court.

Authorities said Corinth Police Chief David Lancaster contacted the FBI after a person arrested by Brewer complained to a jailer that Brewer had taken his money during the arrest.

An investigation was launched and Brewer was reportedly placed on administrative leave without pay.

The Corinth Board of Aldermen voted to fire Brewer after he plead guilty.
