Victim is city’s first homicide of the year

Tupelo police are investigating their first homicide of the year after a 20-year old man was shot and killed just before 2 a.m., on New Year’s Day. Brad Triplett was pronounced dead at the scene after authorities said he was shot several times at Club Icon on McCullough Blvd.

Police have a suspect in custody and he is being questioned by investigators. No motive in the killing has been released.

Suspect at large after armed robbery in Mooreville

Lee County officials are looking for a man who allegedly robbed the B & D Super Stop on U.S. Highway 80, on Jan. 2. Authorities said the man entered the store Sunday morning, wearing a ski mask and demanded money from the clerk.

The suspect showed the clerk a small-caliber handgun and left with an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect fled on foot and was last seen heading north. The suspect stands about 6′ 1″ and authorities believe he may be in nearby Ittawamba County.

Ittawamba County officials are assisting Lee County deputies.

Argument in Pontotoc County leads to murder

Authorities have charged a Pontotoc County man with murder after he allegedly shot his neighbor during an argument. Jimmy George Kramer III, is being held on a $1 million bond after he reportedly killed David Mike Johns.

Officials said on Thursday, Dec. 30, Kramer, who lives on Roye Road, argued with Johns, who lives on nearby Edington Road. Deputies said around 1:45 p.m., the argument escalated and Kramer allegedly shot Johns in the chest with a rifle.

Johns was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kramer was taken into custody shortly thereafter.

Montgomery County man indicted for 1977 sexual battery case

A Stockton, Missouri man, formerly of Montgomery County, was indicted by a Montgomery County Grand Jury on one count of sexual battery and six counts of touching a child for lustful purposes. A governor’s warrant was issued for Daniel Ross “Denny” Johnson and he was extradited from Missouri back to Mississippi to answer for those crimes.

Authorities said the charges stem from incidents which occurred in 1977 and 1982 in Montgomery County and Johnson is being held without bond.

Montgomery County Sheriff Jerry “Bubba” Nix said there is no statute of limitations on Johnson’s crimes.

Johnson’s next court date is reportedly scheduled for April 2011.
