Ballet Magnificat is back with three ballets to kick off its international touring repertoire

The world-renowned Ballet Magnificat is back beginning Friday, April 9th, 10th, and 11th with a fresh Spring Concert Series. The series features three distinct ballets that will be showcased at Jackson Academy’s new Performing Arts Center.

The company’s Executive Director, Keith Thibodeaux, has high expectations for this series. “The series is an introduction to Ballet Magnificat’s touring repertoire, and we hope to get as many people out that weekend so they can see what the company does nationally and internationally,” Mr. Thibodeaux said. “The Jackson Academy performing theater will be a more intimate setting.”

According to Mr. Thibodeaux, a series of this magnitude has never been attempted by the company. “We’ve never tried three different ballets all in one weekend,” Mr. Thibodeaux, admits. “It’s a new experience for us.”

The three ballets that will be featured are “Hiding Place”, “The Scarlet Cord”, and “Deliver Us.”

“Hiding Place”, which debuts April 9th ,is inspired by a true story of Corrie ten Boom, and is set in the World War II era. “The Scarlet Cord”, set to debut April 10th, is a story set in a repressive communist Russia, and follows the lives of two undercover missionaries who share the gospel of Christ before they lose their life for their witness. Furthermore, the final ballet, “Deliver Us” is a Ballet Magnificat classic based on the Dreamworks movie, The Prince of Egypt. It’s expected to be a family favorite, where kids from 3 years old and up can enjoy

The series was choreographed by Ballet Magnificat’s Resident Choreographer, Jiri Sebastian Voborsky. Mr. Voborsky, who has been apart of the company since 1993, and also serves as the Artistic Director of Ballet Magnificat’s Omega company.  He describes himself as the creative mind behind a lot of what Ballet Magnificat ministers through dance. “I help bring obscure ideas that the Lord gives me to life,” Voborsky shared.

What Voborsky, Thibodeaux and the entire Ballet Magnificat company wants to get across in this series to its audience is Christ being the focus. “Even though each ballet is completely different,” Voborsky explained, “the common denominator is Christ, who we believe is worthy to be followed and served.”
