MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) – The Meridian Public School District has fired its superintendent.
Charlie Kent had held the district’s top administrative job since July 2008. School board vice president Don Evans announced Friday that Kent was fired during a closed meeting Thursday night.
Kent had no immediate comment when contacted Friday by The Meridian Star.
The district’s accreditation was lowered in recent months because of problems with standardized tests. Parents also had complained about the district’s response to students fighting in some schools.
Evans says the board appointed Terry Larabee as acting interim superintendent until an interim superintendent can be hired. Larabee is director of the Office for Exceptional School Children.
