Jackson man arrested for possession of child porn

JACKSON – Authorities said a Hinds County man was arrested last week and charged with possession of child pornography. Twenty-year old Cameron Travelstead was charged with two counts of possession of child pornography after officials discovered he was downloading it from the Internet.

The arrest was made by the Sex Crimes Unit of the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office and investigators with the Attorney General’s Cyber Crime Division. The arrest was made as part of the Attorney General’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force of which the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office is a member.

“Technology has revealed to us thousands of people in this state who are downloading child porn,” said Attorney General Jim Hood. “This task force is our key to arresting each and every one of them.”

Travelstead was taken to the Hinds County jail were he was waiting for a bond hearing to be scheduled. If convicted, Travelstead faces up to 80 years in prison with the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

“Let this serve as a warning to all those in Hinds County downloading child porn that we are indeed coming after you,” said Hinds County Sheriff Malcolm McMillin.
