Thirteen pets killed this year

WABG reported that several pets in the Montgomery County and Winona area have been poisoned in recent weeks, and authorities believe the attacks were intentional. Most of the dogs killed in the area were given anti-freeze leaving their owners heartbroken about their beloved pets.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the crimes along with the Winona Police Department. Anyone with information about these inhumane crimes is urged to call the sheriff’s department at 662.283.4612 or the police department at 662.283.1140.

Two injured when vehicle plows into house

Local news stations said that two people were hurt Saturday when an SUV crashed into a Jackson residence.

The resident of the home, Connie Mejia, was standing outside when she saw the vehicle swerve off the street and into her home in the 3500 block of Wheatley Street, WLBT reported.

Mejia was not injured, but she said the crash left a large hole in the master bedroom. The living room and the bathroom were also damaged due to falling bricks and debris.

The driver of the SUV and the passenger were reportedly taken to area hospitals. The accident remains under investigation by the Jackson Police Department.

Man indicted for setting cars on fire

A Shelby man has been indicted by the grand jury for allegedly setting the cars of two aldermen on fire last summer. Local news reports said that Guyton was recruited by two Shelby police officers to burn the official’s cars and that one officer, Barry Smith, provided the gasoline.

Another officer, not identified in the indictment, allegedly drove Guyton in a patrol car to the homes of Shelby Alderman Dan Harris and Harold Billings to show him which cars to burn.
