McAdoo to Serve on National Advisory Board of NAEA

Jackson, Mississippi (January 21, 2010) – President/CEO of Redemption Outreach Ministries International, Inc. (ROMI), Larry McAdoo, will begin serving on the National Advisory Board of the National Abstinence Education Association (NAEA) in January, 2010. McAdoo will assist NAEA in its efforts to offer unique member services for abstinence education organizations, educators and providers, including unlimited lobbying on behalf of abstinence education as a means of accomplishing long-term strategic goals for the field of abstinence.

“This is an opportunity to continue, and strengthen, our commitment to abstinence-centered education. We have always believed that the healthiest choice for adolescents is abstinence and that it should be the focus of any responsible sex education program,” McAdoo said.

“Our youth are best served when they are encouraged to make responsible decisions that will help them achieve their personal goals and become positive contributors to their communities,” he concluded.

ROMI is a nonprofit organization that exists to develop and implement effective outreach initiatives and programs that counter the sociological, family, economic and human decline experienced by families and youth in Central City Communities (CCC). ROMI offers the STARS (Students Taking a Radical Stand) Abstinence-Centered Program in Jackson Public Schools, in the Rankin County Adolescent Opportunity Program (AOP), and in several parochial schools. ROMI is in the process of implementing an after-school tutorial program at Hardy Middle School.

NAEA Executive Director, Valerie Huber says, “Our Advisory Board represents state abstinence coalitions, medical and youth development organizations, and diverse professionals who offer valuable insight and guidance to NAEA. We are indeed fortunate that Larry McAdoo, a person with impeccable credentials, experience and commitment, has agreed to join our board.”

McAdoo is a 1982 graduate of Jackson State University where he formerly served as General Manager of WJSU-FM and as U.S. Navy Campus Liaison Officer (CLO). He and his family reside in Rankin County.
