After `mistakes,’ Jean group gets new accountants

LOS ANGELES – The foundation of Wyclef Jean says it has hired a new accounting firm after the Haitian-born rapper acknowledged “mistakes” had been made by the organization.

The foundation’s finances were questioned last week after it was revealed that the charity had paid Jean to perform at fundraising events and bought advertising air time from a television station he co-owns.

The new accounting firm, RSM McGladrey, will administer the millions of dollars in donations being pledged to Haiti relief through The Wyclef Jean Foundation Inc., also known as Yele Haiti Foundation. The foundation says the funds will solely be used to help earthquake victims, while funds to pay for overhead will be raised separately.
