JACKSON, MS – Nearly a dozen people in south Jackson are taken to area hospitals.
After fire broke out at the Apple Manor Apartments on JoAnne Street off McFadden Road, fire crews said the fire started afer a resident left cooking food unattended in a 3rd floor unit. The blaze was contained to that apartment, but smoke quickly spread throughout the entire building.
More than 10 people were transported to local hospitals for monitoring for enhaling smoke.
There were no life threatening injuries.
Jackson Police said some residents were so afraid, they were seen jumping from their windows to reach safety.
