McCOMB, MS (AP) – A McComb man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for stabbing a former childhood friend in the face with a wooden shish-kebab skewer at a department store.

A Pike County Circuit Court jury on Tuesday convicted 39-year-old Ricky M. Jackson of aggravated assault. Prosecutors say Jackson stabbed Willie Hayes of Liberty in the women’s clothing section of Wal-Mart on Aug. 8, 2008.

A judge sentenced Jackson to 20 years with five years suspended and fined him $5,000. The maximum sentence for aggravated assault is 20 years.

During the trial, Hayes testified that he and Jackson had been childhood friends but were no longer close when the stabbing took place.
