Jackson, MS- On Tuesday, May 31, 2009 at 2 p.m., local community organizations will surprise a college-bound student from Lanier High School with a new laptop. The Ask for More Collaborative, Parents for Public Schools- Greater Jackson, Tatum & Wade Attorneys at Law, and Educational Services Foundation (ESF) are presenting the laptop to the student in his classroom.

The laptop give-away is the culminating activity for the seventh annual Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Fairs that were held district-wide for Jackson Public Schools seniors. Students who participated in the Fairs entered their names in a drawing for the laptop.

By bringing the ESF staff into the high schools to help with the completion of the FAFSA—the required federal form, and the state grant application, we were able to assist over 140 seniors and their families. “For seniors, completing required financial aid forms on time is critical to getting the most funding for college,” stated Ann Hendrick, ESF Director of College Planning.

Tatum & Wade has sponsored the laptop for the past three years and sees it as a great way to give public high school students a better chance to succeed when they enter college. “Joe and I firmly believe that mastering a technology and a strong education are the building blocks of success,” expressed Thandi Wade.

Lanier High School is located at 833 West Maple Street. Opportunities for pictures and interviews will be available.
