Mayor’s Ex-Bodyguard Pleads Guilty

JACKSON, Miss. — One of the Jackson mayor’s ex-bodyguards pleaded guilty in federal court on Tuesday.

Marcus Wright pleaded guilty to misdemeanor conspiracy charges and will cooperate with federal prosecutors. Wright, along with Mayor Frank Melton and Michael Recio were indicted in July on charges related to their participation in an Aug. 26, 2006, raid on a duplex. They are accused of violating the constitutional rights of the duplex owner and tenant to be free of unreasonable search and seizure. A separate charge alleges the men violated those rights “under color of law.”
