JACKSON – Smoking in restaurants is now banned in the city of Jackson.
However, smoking in stand-alone bars is OK.
The city council voted 6-1 Tuesday to implement a partial smoking ban. Earlier, the council had rejected a ban on smoking in all public places.
A 2003 ordinance barred smoking in public places but exempted bars and restaurants.
The amended ordinance will ban smoking in restaurants but exempts stand-alone bars.
