MOORHEAD, Miss. – A Mississippi Highway Patrol trooper is on paid administrative leave for allegedly shooting a man in Moorhead.
Officials with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation say 29-year-old Derrick Terry Pitts was taken to Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville with a gunshot wound Saturday night. On Sunday, a hospital official said Pitts was not listed as a patient and his condition was not immediately available.
Pitts was a passenger in a GMC pickup truck driven by 40-year-old Norman Carpenter from Moorhead.
The statement says the incident involved a gas drive-off in Leland that led to a police chase before the pickup was stopped in Moorhead, where the shooting happened.
Carpenter was transported to the Greenville Police Department where charges are pending.
