1 killed, 1 injured in Bude gas station shooting

One person is dead and another is recovering after being shot in Franklin County Thursday morning, WLBT reported.

According to Franklin County Sheriff James Newman, 54-year-old James William Wallace walked into the Gas Lane Shell station in Bude at the intersection of 184 and Highway 98 around 5:20 a.m.

Wallace then pulled out a small caliber handgun and fatally shot Bruce Anthony Lofton, 49, according to Newman. A second victim, 45-year-old Christopher Allen Shell, was shot in the arm.

Liberty Bank and the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department are co-sponsoring a swearing in ceremony for the “newest deputy” Thursday, Nov. 29, at 11:30 a.m., adding another crime-fighting component to Hinds County.

The newest addition to aid the deputies is a K-9 named “Deputy Liberty.” As a Hinds County employee, Deputy Liberty has the same benefits of all full time employees. His addition was made possible by generous support from Liberty Bank….

Hinds County District 1 Supervisor Robert Graham, the board president, said he was “appalled” by the outcome of last week’s 3-2 vote that cut $2.5 million from the Hinds County Sheriff’s budget.
After that vote, Graham scheduled a special meeting for Monday, Sept. 10, in an effort to reverse the board’s decision…
