Another inmate charged in deadly Mississippi prison riot

Another inmate has been charged with participating in a deadly prison riot in Mississippi.

One guard was killed and 20 people were injured in the May 20 riot at the privately-run Adams County Correctional Facility in Natchez, which holds illegal immigrants convicted of crimes in the U.S.

Pedro Gonzalez De Los Reyes has been charged and a complaint filed by an FBI agent says he assaulted a guard.

Meridian warehouse closing, Miss. wants $3.6M back

Handy Hardware, a Texas-based hardware store cooperative, plans to close its 2-year-old Meridian warehouse on Dec. 31, laying off 109 workers.

Mississippi Development Authority spokesman Dan Turner says the state contributed a $3.6 million grant to Handy and plans to demand the money’s return. Handy CEO Ken White says he hasn’t heard from the state.

Mississippi Country Music Trail honors Chris Ledoux

Country music star Chris Ledoux was recently honored with a marker on the Mississippi Country Music Trail. The marker unveiling took place at the at the Biloxi Town Green at 710 Beach Blvd., in Biloxi.

Born on Oct. 2, 1948, in Biloxi, Chris Lee LeDoux was the son of an Air Force major stationed at Keesler Air Force Base. Young Chris lived in Biloxi for the first year and a half of his life and for another year at the age of 12, which yielded the boyhood memories of fishing holes and black-eyed peas reflected in his song, “Born in Mississippi.” […]

Bryant blocks $3 million for Miss. Grammy museum

Gov. Phil Bryant has blocked lawmakers’ attempt to send $3 million from the Mississippi Development Authority budget to the proposed Grammy museum in Cleveland.

House and Senate Appropriations Committee chairmen sent a May 25 letter to the authority saying legislators intended for MDA to give $3 million to the museum. […]

B.B. King honored with marker on Miss. Blues Trail

The town of Kilmichael had a lot to sing about Tuesday afternoon when the “King of the Blues”, B.B. King stopped by for the unveiling of the latest marker on the Mississippi Blues Trail.

King, 86, is in Mississippi this week for his annual B.B. King Homecoming Festival in Indianola, but he, and the town of Kilmichael were honored Tuesday by the Mississippi Development Association Tourism Division (MDA). […]
