Murder charges: Mississippi Choctaw man beaten, set on fire

Mississippi_Choctaw_FlagJACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Authorities say four Choctaw tribal members beat a fifth Choctaw man to death and burned his body.

The information comes from federal murder charges filed against Keyshawn Willis, Keenan Martin, Jerome Steve and Monte Isaac.

The four are accused of killing Demetrius Sam on Nov. 2 in Neshoba County.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Linda Anderson on Monday ordered authorities to keep all four men in jail.

A sworn statement by an FBI agent says Martin, Steve and Willis confessed to beating Sam. It says Sam was then doused with lighter fluid, set on fire, and placed in a fire pit.

Morrow says Isaac, in a wheelchair, encouraged the assault.

Attorneys for the men didn’t immediately return messages seeking comment.
