JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – A former Mississippi State University football player and his brother have been arrested in a weekend shooting that left one man dead and another critically wounded.

Scott County Sheriff Mike Lee said Monday that deputies arrested 24-year-old Quay Evans of Lena; and his brother, 28-year-old Samuel M. Evans of Morton. Both are jailed on murder and attempted murder charges. It wasn’t known Monday whether the men have attorneys who could be reached.

Lee says witnesses identified the Evans brothers in the shooting death of D.J. Palm Saturday night in Morton. Eddie Dozier was wounded and Lee says he’s in critical condition at a Jackson hospital.

Quay Evans was a touted recruit who played two seasons as a defensive lineman for Mississippi State before his suspension for rule violations.
