OXFORD, Miss. (AP) – An Oxford man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing a Pontotoc funeral home director last year.

The Oxford Eagle reported Tuesday (http://bit.ly/2emvG0U) that 28-year-old Nathaniel Huddleston recently pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the death of 53-year-old Kenneth Roberson.

Roberson was found dead in his home in October 2015 with a gunshot wound to the head. Huddleston was a former employee at Roberson’s funeral home.

Huddleston was originally indicted for capital murder, but the charge was reduced in exchange for his guilty plea. If convicted of capital murder, Huddleston could have been sentenced to death or life in prison without the possibility of parole.

District Attorney Ben Creekmore says Huddleston will be eligible to apply for parole when he turns 65 years old.
