Attorney general Jim Hood unsure if he will run for governor, but worried about state leadership

JACKSON, Mississippi (AP) — Attorney General Jim Hood says he is unsure if he will run for governor in 2019, but is worried about how the state is being led.

The Clarion-Ledger reports that Hood could not answer whether he would run for attorney general again. He noted that he almost decided not to run for his current position, but his mother played a role into him into it.

Hood says he has family and other considerations before he makes a final decision on running for governor. Hood is the state’s lone statewide-elected Democrat.

Hood spoke at the Stennis Institute of Government’s Capitol Press Corps luncheon on Thursday, touching on litigation over House Bill 1523. He also spoke on the problems with the state budget for the coming year.
