JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Attorneys say a Mississippi man who has been jailed 11 years without going to trial will be transferred to a state mental health facility. A judge on Monday approved the transfer of Steven Jessie Harris out of the Clay County Jail when a bed becomes available at either East Mississippi State Hospital or at the Mississippi State Hospital at Whitfield.

GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) – The state port is trying to land its biggest tenant. The Sun Herald reports the company that would use a patented system to condition and liquefy gas on the West Pier for shipment to the Caribbean and Puerto Rico. Executive Director Jonathan Daniels says SeaOne Gulfport LLC’s first production facility and export terminal is estimated to cost $450 million.

D’IBERVILLE, Miss. (AP) – Police say a man is facing a child abuse charge after he mistakenly pocket dialed a toddler’s mother. The Sun Herald reports D’Iberville police say John Elias Taylor III was arrested Sunday and charged with felony child abuse. Police Capt. Marty Griffin says the child was visiting Taylor’s home and was begging Taylor to not whip him.

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – A protest near the U.S. Capitol will call for removal of the Confederate battle emblem from the Mississippi flag. Opponents say it’s a symbol of slavery with ties to the Ku Klux Klan. Supporters say it represents heritage.
