Police: Wife fatally shot husband in act of self-defense

US-CRIME-POLICE-RACE-UNRESTPEARL, Miss. (AP) – A man has died after being shot in what Pearl police say appears to be an act of self-defense.

Multiple media outlets report 25-year-old Justin Jenkins was found shot to death Tuesday inside his home at the Southern Gardens Mobile Home Park.

Pearl police spokesman Capt. Brian McGairty says Jenkins’ wife called 911, saying she had shot her husband in the head.

She was taken into custody for questioning and later released. McGairty says the woman isn’t being charged at this time because it appears it was an act of self-defense.

Investigators say the two may have gotten into an argument when the shooting happened.

A 3-year-old child who was at the home wasn’t harmed.

The case will be presented to the Rankin County District Attorney’s Office for review.
