Coroner: Couple dies following West Point house fire

fireWEST POINT, Miss. (AP) – Officials say a couple has died after a house fire in West Point.

Local media outlets report Clay County Coroner Alvin Carter says 84-year-old Jack Golson and his wife, 80-year-old Sara Golson, died Monday following the morning fire at their home.

The blaze was reported around 10:30 a.m.

Carter says the two became trapped inside the home, but were able to be pulled out alive.

They were taken to the hospital, where they later died. Carter says he doesn’t suspect foul play.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the blaze.
