CANTON, Mississippi (AP) — A former police chief in Flora has been sentenced for sex crimes against children.

WLOX-TV reports Madison County Circuit Court Judge Steve Ratcliff sentenced 59-year-old James Alderman to 15 years on each of the three counts against him, to be served concurrently. Seven of those years will be suspended, so he’ll serve eight years in state prison, followed by five years of probation.

Alderman was arrested in July for gratification of lust involving three children under the age of 6. According to an affidavit, the fondling incidents occurred at Alderman’s home in Flora, where his wife Lori runs a daycare.

The affidavit said that the incidents occurred between December 2014 and January 2015.

Ratcliff also ordered Alderman to have no contact with either the children nor their family members.
