General Manager Duncan McKenzie tells WLOX-TV that managing company Boyd Gaming is spending $2.5 million to upgrade 54 of its suites.

Last year, Boyd Gaming spent between $7.5 million and $8 million to refurbish more than 350 of IP’s guest rooms. The casino boasts 1,088 hotel rooms.

McKenzie says the goal is to bring the rooms up to first class quality. IP hopes to complete the renovations by January.

The Scarlet Pearl Casino in D’Iberville is set to open by the end of the year.
