Initiative 42 supporters sue to get information on Mississippi ballot

16274125-smallJACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Supporters of citizen-sponsored Initiative 42 have filed a lawsuit in an attempt to have more information about their proposal placed on the Nov. 3 ballot.

The initiative is designed to enhance the state’s commitment to public education.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports the lawsuit, filed Monday in Hinds County, seeks to have the full text be placed on the ballot.

Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann recommended and Gov. Phil Bryant approved last week a ballot that would include the title for the initiative, how the Constitution would be changed if the proposal passes and the fiscal analysis of the citizen-sponsored initiative.

The co-managers of the Initiative 42 campaign say the additional information is needed on the ballot to offset what they say is a misleading fiscal analysis.
