Army contract bringing $27.2M to Mississippi

(AP) U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran says a U.S. Army contract to accelerate Department of Defense high performance computing capabilities will involve significant participation from the Engineer Research and Development Center in Vicksburg and the Navy DoD Supercomputing Resource Center at Stennis Space Center in Bay St. Louis.

Cochran, chairman of the Senate Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, said in a news release that $27.2 million of an $82.7 million contract will be performed at those facilities.

ERDC is to receive $14.7 million of the funding, while Stennis will get $12.5 million.

ERDC is also tasked with providing overall management and technical support to advance DOD’s computing capabilities throughout the nation. The estimated completion date for the work is June 2016.
