City of Jackson Weekly Update

  • unnamedCity of Jackson’s Operation Orange Cone Initiative Restoring City Streets
Mayor Tony T. Yarber and Department of Public Works Director Kishia Powell have announced details about Operation Orange Cone, an initiative to restore the city’s streets. Public Works employees work diligently each day to respond to 311 calls about road problems. However, Operation Orange Cone is a focused effort on street restoration. It will include paving, rehabilitation, maintenance and roadway reconstruction projects. The initiative is an effort to remove idle orange cones from streets throughout the city.
  • ·         The 1 Percent Commission OKs Infrastructure Master Plan
The next stop for the infrastructure master plan is the Jackson City Council. Mayor Tony T. Yarber presented the final draft of the IMP to the Sales Tax Commission last month, and members overwhelmingly approved the first round of projects. The multi-year plan will address the comprehensive needs of the city’s crumbling infrastructure, including roads, bridges, sewer and water. Jackson citizens voted in 2014 to tax themselves to help finance repairs to the city’s infrastructure. The commission approval allows for the release of some $13 million to help pay for the first-year projects.
