GREENWOOD, Miss. (AP) – Greenwood police officer has been suspended pending an internal investigation by the department in the April 7 arrest of Jelani Barr, an activist and candidate for lieutenant governor.

The Greenwood Commonwealth reports (http://bit.ly/1HpWG93) Mayor Carolyn McAdams announced the investigation into the conduct of Randy Powell during this week’s City Council meeting.

Authorities say the 30-year-old Barr was arrested as he made a video recording of a traffic stop.

He was charged with disorderly conduct and interfering with a police officer.

McAdams said she met with Barr the morning after the incident.

She says Powell was suspended immediately following the filing of the complaint.

McAdams said the officer will be granted a hearing.
