Cono Caranna, Biloxi mayor candidate, to forgo $115,000 salary if elected

Political_EnterBILOXI, Miss. (AP) — Cono Caranna told a crowd of supporters he is seeking election as Biloxi’s next mayor and if elected, he will serve without pay.

Caranna, who served as Harrison County district attorney for 26 years, told supporters Tuesday “public service is about service.”

According to The Associated Press, the Biloxi City Council last week asked if the mayor’s $115,000 annual salary could be lowered to help city finances.

Caranna receives a state pension.

Other candidates in the April 28 special election are Andrew Gilich, Councilman Felix Gines, Councilwoman Dixie Newman and Harrison County Supervisor Windy Swetman. Councilman Paul Tisdale plans to announce his candidacy Thursday.
